I am trying to make or buy something to keep my ferret out of our kitchen and let her run loose.?
The opening to our kitchen is 71 inches wide. I was going to use plexiglass, but the longest that places around New Orleans has is 72 inches wide and that wouldn’t be long enough for what I was going to do with it. I can’t buy a baby gate, because they aren’t long enough and becasue "Monty" would climb it. It needs to be smooth so she can’t climb it or get over it. I would like it to be at least 30 inches tall. Anybody with any suggestions please let me know your idea. Thanks
I would get 2 pieces of plexiglass & build a wood frame to the specs you need & then cut the glass to fit.

A large piece of cardboard ‘bowed’ into the door can work at least temporarily.
You can also install a screen door on the door frame, a lot of people do this so they can see through, but the animals can’t get into the room.
Instead of plexiglass you can also resort to a piece of particle board wood that slides into place (you make the grooves for it on the door frame). It won’t be see-though but it’ll be a barrier he can’t climb.

I feel your pain and that is why my ferrets are confined to one room (ferret proofed of course) that they can run in all day AND I do not have to be breathing down their back every moment!
That is really what I would suggest. Sorry I couldn’t be more creative!
