Who has responsibility for my child when he is walking to school?

The school my child goes to will not allow the children into the playground before 8.45 prompt. I wish to know who is responsible if anything happens to a child whilst they are waiting outside school gates

You are responsible. They probably don’t have anybody to monitor the playground until then. They are doing this to prevent injuries.

Should you not be with him? Or some other responsible adult if you cannot be there?

    You and only you.

You are the one who allows your child to walk to school.

    It is your decision.

you as you are the parent

if your child is younger than 12 then he should not be walking to school alone anyway

unfortunately you are responsible for your child until it enters the school gates and then the school is responsible for your child until it gets home

Whoever walks the child to school which is you or a responsible adult, the school can not be held responsible for them if they are outside the gate too early! I am assuming that he/she is at an age where they can walk to school by themselves, in that case then if they are responsible enough to walk themselves to school then they are responsible enough to look after themselves!

You are. You wait with him till the gates open. He is YOUR child. Why should somebody else be responsible for him? And where have you been for the last 10 days? You never leave your child.

You are! Simple as that – that is why the schools now get you to sign contracts – to remove their responsibility from looking after your child.

It also works against you if your child plays truant – you can take your child to school – make sure they go in – but if they disappear during the day – it’s your fault again.

The schools are doing it to take away their responsibility and to ensure that they get no claims against them

The parent is. The school is responsible on school grounds during school hours. They are not responsible to look after a child at the parent’s convenience. Before 8:45 the parent is responsible.

You are legally responsible for your child until he passes through the school gates and into the school grounds.
The fact that the school won’t allow them in until 8.45 is irrelevant. If you leave your child outside the school unattended while he is waiting to go in you are still responsible.

you do, the school does not take over responsibility until their specified time usually around 8.45 to 8.50. even if he enters the school gates before that time they will still not accept responsibility. your child is your responsibility. course you could arrange for a child minder or nursery to take your child to school. then its theirs

I belive they (your children) are just simply put under your control until they hit that school zone, then the school is responsible for the protection & welfare of set child until school lets out and they leave the zone again. Thats typically why schools hate people that skip, because they’re still the schools responsiblty.

Amazed to find this question, no offence! Really, I am just so shocked !! I wouldn’t leave my dog tied up outside a shop little less abandon a child on the street.
We live in a society where we seem to think there is no such thing as personal responsibility unless there is a direct (usually monetary) reward. You need to ascertain from the head teacher at what point an adult will be present in the playground to oversee the yard. If for example you are told 8.50. then if you put your child in the yard before then the school is of course not responsible. Ask if there is a policy on this.
You are the primary educator and carer of your child. I hope this too isn’t news!
