We have ine similar to this (link posted below) it works awsome, The plastic ones are too sketchy for me as my 1 year old likes to rock it at the top of the stairs. At least this one is installed into the studs so there is no way it coming crashing down. ( they also are much cheaper then the plastic ones and stretch really good, so if you have a wide hall way it will probably work. )

P.S the only thing about it is it s little weird to open , after you’ve done it a few times you’ll be a pro but be prepared to have to open it up for guest sa lot.

I was browsing on Amazon looking at baby gates and I found one called (Carlson 0930PW Extra-Wide Walk-Thru Gate with Pet Door, White) I have a cat so I would like him to go through the pet door but I was wondering could my baby easily crawl through it? I’m wondering because I don’t want to buy something that doesn’t work. I wasn’t sure if this gate is more for pets than children.

The cat can jump over. The cat doesn’t need a pet door. You are underestimating how high cats can jump.

I am in the middle of moving house this week, going from a ranch style to a two-story home and I am on the hunt for baby gates. I am having trouble finding baby gates wide enough and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations on gates that they like and what gates I should try to avoid.

I need one stair gate for the top of the stairs that needs to fit 41" wide, I want one the opens easily with a door or something. I also need an extra wide gate dividing the family room from the kitchen, which is 101.5" wide and the third gate needs to fit a 53" space.

This move is proving to be quit costly so I don’t have $200 to throw down on a super gate with a superdooper extension (especially seeing as I need three of them), I am trying to stay within a reasonable budget. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

leapsandbounds.com and onestepahead.com have an array of gates in several different finishes and sizes. they also have lots of other fantastic items that you just can’t find elsewhere. i ordered from them alot when my kids were little.

So first off does anyone know where I can get a baby gate for a 5 foot wide stair way? And it needs to be STURDY!!!!!!! it’s for at the top of the stairs and I dont want to be freaking out about a toddler leaning on it and falling down a flight of stairs because it wasn’t sturdy enough.

Where can I get a cheap play pen, changing table, dresser, and book shelf?

And how can I incorporate a theme into the nursery? The crib is a dark wood and the room is painted a light tan color, can’t buy a new crib set so thats out and can’t repaint. I’ve got a bumper pad that I’m going to refurbish with new fabric when I deside on the nursery theme. I was thinking about trying to find a patterned rug or something to make a theme around but I don’t know. So any ideas will be appreciated. Btw the room is for a 6 month old baby girl.
I dont think your bossy and I’m thankful for your concern, but I just thought I would let you know that nobody is going to be hanging of the gate, I’m just thinking about when shes a toddler and is in a big girl bed, what if she wakes up before me or is running around or is walking across the hallway from the bathroom or something and falls up against it? I just need a back up in case I can’t get to her before she makes it to the stairs.

Babies R us has the best baby gates.

For the rest of the stuff you can go to second shops that deal with only babies and kids. You can find stuff super cheap there and in good condition.

For the theme of nursery, just get everything in pink. Pink and tan go nice together, Pink blankets, sheets, teddy bears and a pink lamp, would look really nice.

we want to buy two gates, one for normal doorway and one for an wide door way. what are good gates, price and where we can find them

I like the safety first gates for normal size doorways. Their size is adjustable, so we can stretch them out to reach from our doorway to a side table, or to fit between the door jam. I think we have four of them in our house, and they work great. The one we have also comes with hardware to attach to the door jam. We didn’t do that because we are always moving them, but our sitter has the same gate near her stairs and has it attached to the doorway.

I saw that Babies R Us has a fabric wide gate in their ad this week. I’ve heard great things about it – sorry I can’t remember the name brand at this moment.

I found a perfect one for an archway of ours that is two and a half door widths wide and I found it in a catalog for dog stuff, like dogie beds, dogie clothes things like that, I’m so sorry I don’t have the catalog any longer but maybe you could look on the internet for dogie gates, and we did not have to mount it to the wall.

So, I have been off and on thinking of a baby proof solution for my windows. I have a bit of time, maybe a few months before I really have to get serious about it. We live on the second story of a duplex.

They have screens but screens are not sufficient in safety. And we MUST have them open in the summer because we have no AC and it gets hot here.

We do not want to use the burglar bars on them. We feel they are a fire hazard because we only have one door going in and out of the house, if we are to block the windows with bars we could become trapped in an emergency.

I have not been able to find anything that will work.

We have several large and tall windows that are only about 1 1/2 to 2 feet off the floor. The largest ones span about 5-6 feet wide. The largest ones are in the living room. The smaller ones we are going to use the baby window guards. But they will not work on the ones that are about 6 feet wide. The windows are also very tall, we have vaulted ceilings and they go up to the top of the ceiling.

The windows have no ledges or ridge of any kind that I can use a baby gate in them and the baby proofing window guard is not long enough… They are close enough to the ground that when he is walking (which will be soon) he could reach them with no problem.

I thought about using mesh but will that hold well? How will I keep it on there? My son is a bruiser and very strong… If I were to try to put some mesh over the window I am certain he could rip them out.

I have heard about kids being killed falling out of windows and I just worry that they could be a hazzard.

Does anyone have any suggestions other than burglar bars? And I would use gates if I had a place to put them in to over the wondow but there is no ledge…

Any ideas? Thanks!

Http://onestepahead.com has a plexiglass type guard that is meant for stair railings so kids cannot fall through. What if you put some of that across the bottom 2 feet or so of the big windows? You could put it up a few inches so you could crack the window. Look for the "no climb deck guard".
