So I couldn’t figure out why my dog had terrible gas, then I caught him eating cat poop! I have a small kitten that just started using a litter box, she can’t climb my stairs yet so I can’t put the litter box in my basement yet (the dog can’t get down there) I have the litter box in my room until she is big enough to go downstairs but the dog seems to find his way in there and eats her poop! If I put up a child safety gate then the kitten can’t get in to her litter box, same if I shut the door. So until my kitten is big enough to use my stairs how can I keep my dog out of her litter box?

Get a litter pan with a cover that’s too small for the dog to enter.
Cut a small hole in the door or child safety gate.

İ have phoned the numbers on there website to complain but so far İ have not been able to get through. İ just keep being put in a queue. and then after waiting for about 10 minutes the line goes dead. İ sent a email first thing but have had no reply yet. Any advice would be much appreciated
thanks in advance

Having worked at Argos I found that the customer service in store is far better than the on line service. If there is no local shop you can phone on – 0845 640 2020 . This is for web based complaints. Good luck with that.

my dog Sophy likes to chew big holes in the wooden safety gates , when ever I leave I would put her in the kitchen an dput the gate up, so she does not go in the livingroom and piss all over the carpet and destroy things. Now I bought a plastic child safety gate to put in the door way of the kitchen to keep her in the kitchen but I was going to rub into the plastic gate this HOT SAUCE. She is almost 2 years old and acting this way. I surely hope this hot sauce will be safe for her , Does any of you have any advice for me on how to prevent her from chewing holes into her gates when me or my man is gone from the house. I mean I thought she had it pretty easy with all of her toys and her bed and food and water and pee pad all in the kitchen for her. But that did not satisfy the spoiled rotten dog. she is mad because she left my parents in arkansas house that had five dogs for her to play with and now she is by herself and only with me and my boyfriend . We spoil her rotten. I don’t understand what her problem is and why she is doing this? She gets tons of love from me and my boyfriend and the food that she wants and she gets treats and everything so I really wish I knew what to do about her bad behavior with chewing holes and destroying wooden door gates to close off the kitchen to keep her from going into the livingroom? Is hot sauce alright to put on all over the gate? Will it make her sick or is it okay? Please let me know. my email is citygirltrp@yahoo.com. Thank you
We put her in the kitchen because I work long hours at walmart and my boyfriend is in college for eight hours of the day and then works at a job after his school so during the week we take her for a walk in the morning and afternoon and we put her in the kitchen. because of my work and his school we do not have time to take sophy to obedience school or even be able to aford a vet. We are very tight with money right now with dental bills and 33,000 dollars worth of bills. I put her in the crate all day and I come home to shit being in the crate water and dog food mixed in and ripped up pee pee pad and wet bed that she layed in. After that experience I said absolutely no more crate I’m sick of it!!!
The fact I work all day and then come home to have to clean that drives me insane!
I tried the hot sauce lightly on a hard plastic gate that I bought and she did not touch the gate what so ever. before the hot sauce I was using a special spray for no chewing that had flavor that was
A co worker of my boyfriends is bringing in Bitters apple for me for Sophy, I will also give that a try even tho the hot sauce worked . I put it on so light to where it won’t harm her. I do very much appreciate everyones advice thank you so much

Pet stores sell bitter apple sprays that most dogs dont like
Ive never used hot sauce before but the bitter apple has helped with my dogs tendency to grab our shoes when shes alone
A bottle the size of a regular water bottle costs $10 or so
Ull have to spray it once everyday for the bitter apple to stay

My neighbor has a dog that he has for some strange reason decided to leave outside on the hottest days. There isn’t any shelter for the dog. The dog was an indoor dog. He was never leashed outside and was happy to follow its owners everywhere. the yard is unfenced and the dog would never leave the yard only follow the owners.
For some crazy unknown reason they have now left the dog outside leashed to the house with no shelter and it’s food and water to far for it to reach. They have started doing this since the weather has turned to over 100 degrees. The dog is out there day and night. The yapping is driving me nuts. I know they are home. I see them come and go. I know maybe if they are gone it isn’t a good idea to let the dog roam the house, but there are kennels that can be put in the home to save the dog from the heat and even a dog house outside would be of some help.
I have two wonderful dogs myself both indoor, but have plenty of time to roam outside in our fenced yard when they want. I don’t let they roam in the house when we are gone. I have a child safety gate on our kitchen to ensure they are safe while we are away. Lets just say we love and spoil our dogs and take every considerations to ensure they are happy and comfortable. I hate to see our neighbors dog being basically thrown out to sit in the heat after being indoors and being a good companion to its owners. I feel for it and know it has to be wondering what it did to be put in exile away from its pack. What can be done if anything for this dog? I have even thought of asking if they no longer wanted the dog and taking it in or finding it another home, but I didn’t want to make my neighbors think I was getting in their business.

Call your local Animal Control (your neighbors will not be told you complained). It may seem extreme but it is necessary. Extreme heat can permanently damage organs and lead to death. Report the lack of shelter but also the barking. If Animal Control receives enough complaints about a barking dog they can take action. Hopefully a call or visit from Animal Control to investigate the situation will be the kick in the pants your neighbors need to change their behavior. Animal Control could also seize the dog if necessary and take it to a local shelter. Once there it can hopefully find a better home with a loving family that will attend to its needs, possibly your own if you are interested. You are a very caring person and your dogs are lucky. However, unless you have a good relationship with the owners I wouldn’t confront them directly. If Animal Control cannot help you or has no influence on their behavior then possibly consider it, but only as a last resort.

Best of luck, I hope everything turns out well for the poor dog.

My wife and I are arguing about our two-year old and whether or not her bedroom door needs to be latched at night while she sleeps.

I feel that it is much safer to leave it latched, even though she is too small to open it herself.
My wife wants it left ajar, thinking that it is safer that way.

I do not understand how using a baby gate is any different than a latched door, but a baby gate is not safe in a fire situation.

Her room is downstairs…
I have installed a hardwire monitor in the room, with a constant feed to my bedside table…she knows how to use it to call me.

I know that having a closed door is safer in terms of fire protection.

Please provide a link to a credible site…thanks

If you’re worried about fire you should first make sure that all of the fire alarms are in good condition in the house and practice with your daughter if the fire alarm goes off and the plan to get out of the house, and where to go once she is outside of the house. While a closed door might be good in a fire, if she can’t get out of the room period then it is no good at all because there is no guarantee that you will be able to get to her.

So first I would say make sure that your fire alarms are working before anything.

As for the door, my mom always left my door open. Mainly so she could hear me if I needed anything.

These twins are 9 months old, at the just about to start walking stage (if they hadnt already). Regardless, there would have been child-safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs (since its already been reported that the children were sleeping UPSTAIRS).

Now you may argue that they left both of these gates open because the children were asleep, however I know that just out of habit, for my own peace of mind, even if my kid was asleep, I would close the gates behind me. Why? Because it takes all of two seconds, and in the unlikely event they did get out of the cot, at the very least they would only be on one level, not crawl/walk to the top of the stairs and then fall down. Plus its just a force of habit, you just get in the habit of always closing the gates, so that you dont accidentally ‘forget’ to do it one day with disasterous consequences.

So one of two things happened here:

The child gates were locked and somehow this fox managed to jump over both sets of gates (at the top and the bottom) without making a single sound (and how determined is that fox to get to some soiled nappies to be able to do that).

or the gates were open, which might be fine, but still seems to me to be playing a little fast and loose with their safety considering there is a 5 or 6 metre drop awaiting them ….
La Volpe – I totally agree with you on the count of all these neighbours all declaring it to be some epidemic, yet if that was the case why did the parents leave the door wide open and then leave both child safety gates open to allow the fox to get upstairs.

This would make them negligent. They can’t have it both ways. Either they were negligent because they knew there was a problem but did nothing to prevent the attack, or there was no problem in the first place which is why they never forsaw it.

But they can’t have it both ways.
Nice guy ………. babies don’t have to be at walking age to need babygates. Having one of your own, you should know how fast they can crawl along the ground at 9 months. Wouldnt take them long to get from one end of a room to the edge of the staircase.

A fox can jump very lightly. A gate would present very little obstacle. Foxes come over our six foot fences all the time. They’re very nimble and stealthy with it. The mistake people are making is thinking that foxes are nice – they’re not. They are renowned for causing terrible problems with lambs and chickens. They are vermin but some people think they’re cute, feed them and allow them to breed in their gardens. I wouldn’t breed rats but that’s what people do with foxes. There is no difference rat=vermin fox=vermin.

My daughter is 3 years old and stays with her grandparents one night a month. They have a very tall staircase that has wood, no carpeting, and her room is upstairs, while they sleep downstairs. My mother thinks our daughter is old enough to not use the gate at the top of the stairs any longer, but my husband and I are concerned that she’s still a little wobbly (especially after just having woken up) and there is a danger there. I’ve looked online for any info but would like some feedback from others who might have a similar situation. The thought of her falling scares me to death. How do you know when a child is old enough not to need safety gates?

When she can go up and down the stairs consistently by herself without falling, she’s old enough to not use the gates. My niece is 3 and every time my sister thinks she no longer needs the gates, she ends up falling down the stairs.

I’d love your advice please! I have two, 1yr old cats, a male Ragdoll, and a female Tabby (both spayed/ neutered)
I love them both dearly, but some nights I want to break their necks!

They are both indoor only cats, and recently they have started misbehaving during the night.
I’m finding this incredibly stressful as I’m 8.5 months pregnant, and really need the sleep….

What happens is that at about 3 – 4 a.m, I can hear them carrying on like lunatics throughout the house, jumping up on counters, knocking things over, scratching, etc…..
I know this sounds like boredom, but they have PLENTY of stimulating toys, a climbing frame, etc.
Both are in excellent health, eating well, etc.

The only thing I can think of that has changed is that we have put up a pet/child safety gate in our bedroom, preventing them from coming into our room. They previously were allowed in and used to sleep, quite soundly, with us. Obviously, this is now non negotiable, as when our baby comes, I don’t want them in the room with us for health and safety reasons (hair, and the risk of suffocation)

Perhaps this has stressed them out? How can I help them, and also, can I get them to stop jumping up on counters….especially the kitchen counter (not very hygienic)

Thanks so much, and I look forward to your replies…… xxx

Cats are creatures of habit and don’t always cope well with change, no matter how minor those changes might seem to us. Not only has their night-time routine of sleeping with you come to an abrupt end, but there are probably lots of other changes taking place around the home in readiness for your baby. Their night time antics may be designed to get your attention, especially if you have less time for them during the day than previously. Do you react in any way when they start messing about? Even calling out to tell them off, is giving them attention and will only reinforce the behaviour because they’ll be getting the pay-off they were hoping for. If this is the case, the best thing to do is ignore their antics – even if you have to resort to wearing ear-plugs to get some sleep. It may take a couple weeks, but they will eventually realise that messing about is no longer an effective way of getting your attention. Be sure to set aside some quality time for them in the evening. If they like being groomed, spend time doing that. Not only do cats find it comforting, but it helps to reinforce the bond between you which will help reassure them if they are feeling any insecurity over the changes taking place.

They’re both young cats with a lot of energy to burn, especially as they are indoor only. Is there another family member who could spend 30 minutes or so playing with them in the evenings? All cats enjoy practising their hunting skills, and if the games involve them chasing after things it will burn off some of their excess energy. If they’re kept active in the evenings, they should be more inclined to sleep longer at night.

You can try placing aluminium foil on the work tops at night, as many cats dislike walking on it. The work surfaces can be wiped down with an anti-bacterial spray prior to use to minimise any potential health risks.

This article has lots of information and advice on raising your baby with cats which you might find helpful.

Hope all goes well with your baby.
