suggestions for a baby gate?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

I have a 7 month old baby who is started to become mobile, he will be fully crawling in just a few weeks. our upstairs will be the play room area but our stair case is very wide, and a normal baby gate does not fit it, also our house is very colonial house and i dont think a plastic one would look so great, any suggestions where i would get one?

Check out Kid co. they have all sorts of different gates.

Any suggestions for a top of the stairs baby gate that there isn’t anything to drill it into?

We have railings at the top of the stairs and I bought the kidco no drill baby gate installation kits and a baby gate but it turns out my railings aren’t straight across and the way they are placed it won’t work to put a baby gate on. I am in desperate need to put a gate in front of these stairs as the second I set my son down he goes straight for the stairs… has anyone had this problem with gates? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could put in front of the stairs that would work just as good?!
The Kidco no drill kit works perfect for our other railing to attach the gate to… but our stairs going down the 2 posts for the railing aren’t straight across so the gate would be going diagonal and I don’t think the latches will work then so I’m wondering if there is some other type of gate I can put there that it wont matter if it is diagonal

(a) Install 2 additional, upright ‘posts’ to your existing railing to accommodate the baby gate.
(b) Just install the baby gate to nearest the doorway and prevent your baby from getting near the stairway.

Baby Safety gate for against banister?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

I am looking for a GOOD! safety gate that I can use for my stairs, I have a banister so it would have to go against that, I would prefer to have one that DOESNT ruin the banister nd wall, but I want to make sure that if my son pushes against it, it wont fall over.
It needs to be able to open because I cant climb over top of it

thank you so much!!

At the top of stairs, a pressure-closed gate is not adequate. It will eventually given way, leading to a big tumble down the stairs. There are gates with "gate door" in them, with a handle to lift while pushing a release button. If your stairway is not near standard size, (ours is 23", no gate fits), there is a gate which is kind of like a window shade turned sideways, with a latch to keep it in place. Pricey, but it did work well.
